Turn and fix the orientation of any PDF page

A PDF that opens sideways or upside down is almost never a "broken" file. The page content is fine; what is wrong is the page's stored orientation. This tool corrects that orientation per page and bakes the fix into the file you download, so the correction travels with the document everywhere it goes.

When orientation goes wrong

A few situations produce these tilted pages over and over:

• Phone and flatbed scans. Document scanners and scanning apps frequently save a portrait letter or invoice in landscape, or rotate alternate pages when you scan a double-sided stack through a feeder. You end up with a file where pages 1, 3, 5 read correctly and 2, 4, 6 are upside down.
• A few pages embedded from another document. When someone drops a landscape spreadsheet export or a wide diagram into an otherwise portrait report, that one page lands at 90 degrees.
• Faxed or emailed forms that arrived rotated and need fixing before you sign, print, or forward them.
• A deck of receipts or ID photos scanned in a hurry, where each one needs a different turn.

Because you set every page independently here, mixed-orientation files like these are fixed in one pass.

How rotation is actually stored

A PDF page carries a /Rotate value in its dictionary: 0, 90, 180, or 270 degrees. Viewers read that number and turn the page on screen before drawing it; the underlying text and image streams never move. This tool changes that single value rather than re-rendering the page, which is why the text stays selectable, the images stay at full quality, and the file size barely changes. The rotate-left and rotate-right controls each step you 90 degrees at a time, so two clicks gives you 180 (upside-down) and three gives you 270.

Writing the value into the saved file is the important part. Some viewers let you rotate the view with a keyboard shortcut, but that is a display-only setting that is forgotten the moment you close the window and is never seen by anyone you send the file to. Saving here makes the orientation permanent in the document itself.

Practical tips

• Look at the small degree badge under each thumbnail (for example Page 2 · 90°) to confirm what you changed before you save.
• For a stack where every other page is flipped, rotate just the wrong ones; leave the rest untouched.
• If the whole document is rotated the same way, turn one page, check it reads correctly, then apply the same turn to the others.

When to reach for a different tool

Rotation only spins a whole page. It will not:

• Crop off a rotated margin or stray black border from a scan — set the visible area with Crop PDF instead.
• Change the paper size or scale the content to A4 or Letter — that is Resize PDF.
• Reorder, delete, or rotate pages while also rearranging them — Organize PDF gives you a full drag-to-reorder grid with rotation and deletion together, which is the better choice if you are doing more than just fixing orientation.
